I think you’re probably right, and that is probably also a big part of the
problem. Most motorists want cyclists to behave like vehicles when they are on the road in traffic, but many of those same motorists don’t treat the bicycles like they do other moving vehicles. In this case, the driver felt he was “cut off” because he was planning to pass the cyclists in their own lane — something he would never do if they were cars.

Effectively, he is treating the cyclists as if they were in their own (non-existent) lane to the right of his, and as if he has the right to pass them in his own imaginary separate lane. So he gets mad when they make a legal lane change, because he sees it as them “cutting him off” in his imaginary lane.

It’s also interesting that he’s clueless enough to post the video and complain about the cyclists publicly, when the video evidence suggests that they were fine.
