Trying to trap a mouse. 2 nights in a row, I've been bested. It ate most the bait and trap didn't spring. Ideas?

Bend back the part that the rod catches on just a little bit so it will slip off

Mostly on purpose. Sometimes accidents or mistakes happened though.
