It's cliche revisionism

"What if the bad guy wasn't really that bad, or was merely misunderstood" is a lame, unimaginative way to piggyback off a better, more original work (not that the wizard of oz is that great anyway).

Heard the book is awful. I assume the movie doesn't have any beastiality, as the book reportedly does.

At least they cast leads who can sing, unlike the Les Mes movie.
