I'd bet there is at least one player, and quite probably more, that is/are making more money than Shane Reese. If you get paid to play, you better perform or expect to receive the criticism that will come to any professional who fails to do a professional job.
These aren't the starving student-athletes of yore. The paradigm has changed. Most colleges don't want to admit it, but they are now fielding professional teams, at least in the money sports (men's football and basketball). I'd bet that academics for most of the players these days gets as little attention as they can devote to it and still remain eligible.
