can you wedge something in there to keep it from turning and turn the topside?
The valve inside the tank attached to the threaded pipe in the picture. All you'll need to do is get it started and it'll spin off easy peasy.

think of the valve as the bolt. You see the nut. Turn the bolt, not the nut

I should have thought of that. I had to basically break the old one to turn it, but once I did that, it came out easily.
