for the most part, remember that you're insuring the car as the registered owner
and that you are responsible to include the primary drivers of your cars on your insurance policy. we have had one adult child we kept on our insurance and kept our names on the title even though we informally sold the car to her (she's a good student and is generally responsible) and one adult child we booted from our insurance and had him title his car in his own name so he could get his own insurance. in general, if you are the registered owner of the car, you need to carry the insurance and include all drivers. there are exceptions to this (non-owner's insurance, etc.) but this is the general rule.
