cajuncoug Intervention Needed
I think it'll get better
I think there's a bit of dancing on their graves now that they're gone, but there was pretty steady and somewhat well-documented condemnation of Lamb's recruiting practices--specifically an overreliance of developing "diamonds in the rough" and backing away in the face of P5 recruiting competition.

Re: Tuiaki--I actually do like the guy and think he's more capable than typically given credit for around here, but it's tough to identify a track record of recruiting success during his tenure. It's pretty evident that his scheme scared some players away, most notably on the D-line. Even our actual players, when trotted out to the media in good times, struggled to say anything particularly compelling about being a lineman when we dropped 8. The confidence in our scheme that emanated brightly from players like Kyle Van Noy and was commonly expressed by players under Bronco took a long hiatus.

Jay Hill has no such issues or limitations, and the immediate recruiting spike with him running the show was evident. So is his ability to adjust his scheme in order to generate and preserve wins.

It will never be perfect. We will always have misses like the Reid kid, and so will Utah. So will everyone. But it's already gotten better and will continue to do so if we can keep the current D Staff in tact and get them the needed support to excel in the recruiting game. The right people are on board and driving the bus.
