It’s a MST3K type of show because of how poorly written it is.
Almost every scene set up has a community theater vibe with limited extras doing community theater type things.
Obviously some people dig it and ignore or excuse these issues, but I think the poor viewership numbers that appear to have decreased year to year are a reflection of it just being a bad TV show, totally separate from glomming onto the LOTR brand.
