should be BYU fans or they are not good members.
I was listening to Spence Checketts on AM700 on way home yesterday at 2:30pm. Yes, I know I need to download Big 12 podcasts so I don't have to listed to him, but in total honestly, I enjoy his program over AM1280 Hans and Scotty who try too much to entertain, believing that is what people want to list to. I don't. I care very little for their dribble. At least Checketts will stick mostly to some sports focus. It's been interesting these last 2 weeks how less his program has been on UofU since their repeated losses. He spends time on Real SL, The Utah Hockey Club, the Jazz, etc--sports, and not other "crap" that Hans & Scotty throw at you and has little to do about sports.
So, he had a guest yesterday that I missed his name. Someone who works for Jazz currently, is from back east, and when he moved to Utah he worked for U MBB. He married a graduate from BYU, so they post a flag during Rivalry Week that has both school emblems and says, "A House Divided". He didn't seem hard core Utah though.
He then gave that worn explanation that is used over and over and is not true that BYU fans generally view Utah fans that are members of the Church as not being good members. Now, is there someone out there that might say that? I would guess yes. I believe I've seen some on CB. I've honestly NEVER met one. I've lived in Utah for 26 years. While I acknowledge their existence in some obscure corner of the planet, generally MOST BYU fans do not believe that. Heck, we would have had to say that about several presidents of the Church and members of the Q12 were bad members because of their U of U affiliation. We don't. You have a right to attend U of U or anywhere else.
Yes, there are many BYU fans that don't completely understand how good members of the Church can support a school that has a lot of anti-Church fans and just ignore the situation. That's valid and I have heard that. BUT, that is different from believing them bad members. That's what these people keep perpetuating, the myth that we are ALL of the "holier than thou persuasion" and believe them bad members. Two thirds of my bishopric in Eagle Mt are U grads and fans, but are extremely cordial and great people. I retired from the Church and there were tons there very similar. I just strongly wish these ill-informed individuals would quit perpetuating that myth and come down to reality. Checketts included. He echoed the same sentiment. That's one of the underlying currents that adds negatively to this rivalry.
Sorry for the rant, but it bugs me.
