So where is the offsetting loss when my home appreciates in value? Or stocks?
You make a claim that for every increase, there has to be a decrease and I do not think that is true in most markets. Crypto goes up in value as more people want it/use it. Who is losing money because Bitcoin increases in value? The same question for any asset you invest in. Just because an asset appreciates in value does not mean someone else must lose value, that is not how markets work. That can happen when you don't have open markets, when you get caught in a ponzi scheme, or similar illegal investments. But investments made in assets that are legal and done in a free market do not require someone to lose money in order for the asset to appreciate in value.
