Gratefully, your assessment is so far off as to be laughable. U of U athletics department has done everything they did for two sole purposes: 1. Improve their athletic department’s ability to field amazing teams, and 2. Improve their branding of whichever conference they were in. If it demanded diminishing the BYU brand, I’m sure they did it without hesitation… so that they could keep their jobs.
And Tom Holmoe would do the same for the same reasons.
That’s awesome that you’ll always root for BYU, and fine that you’ll root against U. But if you’re doing it because you think you and BYU have been somehow slighted by the U, you’re being a bit naive. I suspect their decision making includes so little about how it will affect BYU that it’s not worthy to discuss.
And I am a lifelong BYU fan and a transplant to Utah. I get to live around and work with lots of U fans. I like them. I enjoy our friendly banter every year about who is gonna win. I appreciate their friendship. It would be fantastic if more people didn’t spout vitriol that isn’t true, because those who are fans on both sides here in Utah for the most part want to see champion caliber football, rugby, baseball, basketball, soccer etc. games every year and avoid the shameful talk that denigrates others for no good reason.
