Just did walk in service for a broken bone at a large network clinic.
I don’t know what insurance coverage would have been but I told them self pay when I walked in. They took a $200 CC charge before seeing the PA. We did X-rays and consult, diagnostic, treatment plan. When I left, I stopped at the check-in desk and they had several people figuring out what everything cost. They refunded the $200 deposit, presented me with a $350 bill, and I paid in full with a CC and left.

They know how to do it. They know if a self-pay customer leaves the premises without paying, the chance of getting paid goes way down.

They did say I needed a piece of equipment to stabilize the broken bone. The PA told me I could get it on Amazon for $75 or I could buy it at the clinic for $400. "But that is really just for people using insurance," she said. You’re better off buying the exact same thing on Amazon.

The problems are caused by the insurance overlay.
