Cutting up a fallen log for firewood alone at age 18. I was 7 miles up a canyon
In Star Valley Wyoming. I had borrowed my cousin's big lumberjack chainsaw for the day. I was an experienced woodcutter, but I had never used one with that long of a blade.

My plant foot was resting on a stump that turned out to be rotten. The stump gave way and I lost my balance while cutting. The chainsaw blade came down across my left leg and cut deeply to the bone in my knee.

Fortunately I missed major arteries by just a few inches. It bled quite a bit, but it mostly hit cartilage and not any major arteries. I had to drive myself the 15 or so miles to Afton to the hospital and try not to go into shock while I was driving with my right hand and holding the skin together with my left hand.

Spoiler: I made it to the hospital.
