I was a grad student and took a class from OU's SID. He hooked me up with the ABC/ESPN crew to help with home games. My first experience was in the production truck. They couldn't get the stadium clock to sync with the broadcast clock, so I had to sit there and watch a monitor showing the stadium clock and start/stop the broadcast clock every time it moved. At the last minute they also asked me to back up the stats guy and be able to relate what happened during every play just in case he missed something. Bad combo.
At one point, I had the broadcast clock like 40 seconds off the official game clock. It was virtually impossible to record plays and manage clock at the same time. It was an easy fix, but after that I was only managing the clock. All good thereafter.
