but isnt "travels well" implied to mean that the core fanbase travels to the
game, from the home-area? hence the word "travel". The fans aren't traveling if they are already there.
Now, I do think we travel well, but we also have a national fanbase.
BYU has more local fans in other regions than other college teams not named ND or similar.

I saw some guy on Twitter rejecting the notion that BYU travels well because most fans at away games live close by 😂

Yes he is. Getting a lot of fans at away games is the very definition of a team traveling well. BYU travels well.
