College teams generally have pretty poor records when playing on the road 2 time zones away. I believe BYU has only ever won one true road game in Florida, vs. USF a few years ago, while they've lost at least 5 that I can recall (at USF, at UCF, at Florida St. twice, and at Miami).

There is also a perception among some that BYU has gotten “lucky” and is overachieving and likely to fall back to earth soon. But I actually think this is less of a factor now than the first two points above.
