good argument can be made for not trying to rank early in the season at all. Things change from year to year, and when ranking this year's teams we should really only consider this year's teams. Last year might be an indicator for early guesses, but by this point in the season it shouldn't matter at all. People should have enough to decide how all teams this year compare to other teams this year.
