They cut off the ends of words
When my son served there and would greet people they would say really fast 'audio.' He thought for sure he was saying hello and they were responding 'Goodbye'
He eventually worked out that they were actually saying A Dios, which in the DR meant 'with God' or something like that. It was actually a really kind greeting. He only served there for 8 months (Covid) and it was an absolute delight for him. Despite his lengthy Spanish training through work and High School, I don't think he was there long enough to really get the DR dialect.
