I understand. What I was saying is that it is best to learn to focus through distraction (what you called “ignoring
irrelevant stimuli”)

But that’s difficult to obtain for some and very had to practice for alone. Even in those circumstances you can still increase catch rate in such scenarios by training “catching through boredom.”

And this is because the necessary function is the same: Executing a catch when the mind isn’t solely focused on the catch.

This kind of practice doesn’t solve the root problem (distractibility), but it does improve the symptom (dropped balls).

And I think we can all agree that alleviating the symptom to some degree is worth the extra practice.
