Consistent in regards to the teams who get a bye are at a disadvantage. Because at the end of the day, the MLB needs its stars to go deep into the playoffs to try and grab the casual fan. Also if you are going to justify keeping a 162 game season, which they should shorten, you have to make sure the top teams who earned those spots have some kind of advantage in the postseason, and it’s a disaster if it continues to play out that the league is actually handicapping their top teams. And it would suck for one of those miraculous seasons where a Marlins or Pirates make a run and end up being a top seed, and then get bounced out of the NLDS because of the format.

For example if the NFL or the NBA instituted playoff format changes and their top teams/superstars (Chiefs, Celtics, Nuggets, etc) consistently showed they were disadvantaged in any way, those leagues would quickly find a way to rebalance it. MLB is a dinosaur compared to those leagues in terms of being on top of their sport.

Overall, probably give it a little more to make sure it really is a thing, and if it is they need to find a way to rebalance it for the top seeds
