There’s lots of problems with the entire AP Poll process.
❌Preseason rankings are often very speculative, based on the prior season in a sport with lots of roster turnover, and these rankings are often “sticky” through much of the year

❌AP Poll voters are often biased towards the team they cover, and many clearly don’t watch many of the games. Are east cost voters really consider the late night window of west coast games?

❌The AP poll is mostly momentum voting. Win and go up, and doesn’t change enough week to week.

If only there was a poll system that mattered and was used for selecting teams for the playoffs that:

-didn’t start until late October/early November to avoid preseason bias
-had representatives from each a variety of conferences (including G5) who recused themselves in discussions of their program, and
-a process that involved re-evaluating the rankings each week from scratch, by batching teams in small groups and debating each group.

That would be the ideal ranking format (for subjective formats at least. If you prefer objective formats like the BCS, it would be nice to know that the subjective format has agreed on the playoff teams with the simulated BCS every year but one).
