If you look at prior College Football Playoff rankings, pretty much every 1-loss team would make the playoff (at least from P5 conferences). Plenty of 2-loss teams would make the playoff as well, though this isn't quite as much of a certainty. 3-loss teams could potentially make it as well, but that is typically the situation where a team finishes 10-2 and loses in their conference championship game to finish 10-3. In think in general, a 10-2 finish would give BYU a shot, while an 11-1 finish would make it a near certainty.
