My wife teaches college students (20+ years) and has found similar things. For lack of a better word, students are dumber now than they used to be. She believes they don't think critically as much any more and have a lower work ethic. Less drive to improve. They only seek quick fixes and easy paths to end goals, and are just bewildered when she tries to explain to them that dedicated study will be the key to improving.
