FWIW, I LOVE doing what I do. I work full time at a different job and have
sunday, monday, tuesday, and every other wednesday off. I LOVE to fish. Its my passion. I used to go fishing on one of those days off almost every week.
Then I started volunteering at the elementary school. Fell in love with it. I love spending time with the kids so much that I actually choose to go to work at the school for free rather than go fishing now. Which would seem insane to me. I go and help the little ones (kindergarten and first grade) in the cafeteria with opening up their chocolate milks and peeling their oranges and opening their bananas etc and then go out to the playground and keep an eye on all the kids from kindergarten through 5th grade as they come and go to recess. I play basketball, football, 4 square, jump rope with them. (indoor days we do this really fun game in the gym called 4 corners or they play a game called sharks and minnows which I hate cause it always ends up causing a few minor injuries).

I make sure no one is fighting or throwing rocks or bullying anyone. Im pretty lenient though on many of the "rules" One of the recess aides who actually works there and gets paid is the strict one. The enforcer. I love having her there to be "bad cop". I think of my job as to just make sure they have lots of fun and brighten their days.

My favorite thing about volunteering there is getting to know all the kids. Having conversations with them. I sit at the lunch tables with them and move from table to table frequently and try to get to know all the kids. At recess I like to talk with as many kids as possible. I know most all of them pretty well and they often confide in me and I try to help them with any issues they are going through.

I love it. However, Im not sure I would love the teaching part. When we do have indoor days (when its below 27 degrees or raining or too much smoke in the air etc) and the gym is unavailable we have to stay with them in their classroom for recess. I dont like that at all. It sucks. Im not good at keeping them quiet and calm in that setting and they walk all over me lol. Im way too nice. Would be hard to actually teach them.
