We saw the SL Trib heatline: "BYU ended up blowing out the Wildcats even as it trailed in almost every major statistical category." It's a shallow analysis.
What matters in FB is getting the ball down the field, and it can happen in many more ways than passing and rushing. With that metric K-State beat BYU 366-241.
KSU BYU
pass 138 to 149
rush 228 to 92
fumble return o to 30
int return 0 to 15
punt 57 to 166
punt return 7 to 90
kick return 20 to 18
Total yards moving the ball is K-State 450 to BYU 560. Add in that 3 times K-State turned the ball over, throwing away yards gained, and never made a TD.
Also, special teams moved the ball 274 yards to K-State's 84. Half of our yardage came from special teams. Our defense was awesome, but special teams was just as good.
We didn't just get lucky (although some of that happened as well). We moved the ball effectively in all phases of the game. I like how full numbers tell a more complete story.
