…I served a 2 yr mission for my church in my 20’s in Tokyo Japan. I was over 6’5” with shoes on and really stood out walking down the street or while riding trains. I was clean cut and always wearing a white shirt and tie and with another missionary also clean cut wearing white shirt/tie. In a weirdly coincidence, most of my companions were my height or close to it (give or take an inch either way) so two tall long-legged American dudes got a lot of stares from the locals where ever we went. We embraced it and would use that as an opportunity to share a smile and catch them off-guard, then approach them to break the ice and share a message etc.
We found a warm smile and eye contact was a great way to break the ice and help bridge the distance. Hope you have a great time. There’s room for everyone on this train 🙂
