I am an engineer in the defense industry. I have specialized skills related to
products that my employer purchases from suppliers. My employer relies on me to ensure that our suppliers meet requirements, deliver on time, address production issues, etc.

My work at home is mostly the same as it was when I was in the office. Most of my meetings have always been teleconferences. Now we use zoom which is much better than conference calls.

I travel to suppliers like I did before. I review reports and test data and write reports.

Working at home I save drive time and I can flex to help out with some of the duties with our kids. My wife went back to work about the same time I started working from home. So that has worked out well.

The disadvantage of working from home is the lack of networking that you get in the office. Many of the main players on the program I support have turned over since I started working at home. I don’t have nearly as good of relationships with the new folks as I did with the others that I had gotten to know while working in the office.
