We just boarded our cruise in Vancouver yesterday. We ate a leisurely lunch near the hotel and then went to board at about 1 PM. By that time the crowds had died down and we boarded right away with no hassle and our stateroom was ready for us.
If you board early you will likely be in a big line, have to find a place to sit for lunch while toting your carryon, and wait for your cabin to be available.
