I'm with your wife

EVERYONE goes straight to the buffet when they board. It is a madhouse and single worst time in that area on the ship. I would avoid at all costs.

Yes, on the cruises I have been on (HA, Princess, RC) - they all have an open buffet place that you can hit once on

Yup. Free lunch on board. Really hard to find a seat though. Everyone stays seated until the rooms are open.
