Can we talk about what it means for a QB to be a game manager?
I think some CBers think "game manager" means a QB that just comes in and hands the ball off over and over. That's not what it means.

A QB that's a game manager executes every play well. He makes sure guys are where they're supposed to be. He goes through his reads and only attempts the pass if his guy is actually open. If he goes through his reads and if nobody is open, he dumps it off to his check down guy, throws it away, or runs towards the sidelines to try to get a couple yards if it's open (only if it's open...slide if necessary if a defender is closing in too fast).

He doesn't attempt risky passes. He covers up the ball and takes a sack rather than trying to spin around stiff arming guys to extend a play.

Avoiding turnovers is key for a game manager.

If Jake Retzlaff can be that guy, we can win a lot of football games this year. We don't need Retzlaff to try to be Patrick Mahomes...all that will do is result in more 3+ turnover games. I WANT Jake to be a dependable game manager. It's not a bad thing.

Hopefully in the near future we'll have a guy we can trust to squeeze the ball in tight windows and to extend plays and to put the team on his back. We don't have that guy. We just need Jake to be that dependable game manager.
