They have their purpose, but they get hairy when you add a dual lane.
Mainly because there are a ton of stupid drivers out there.
We had a blind corner intersection down the street from my house that was causing major accidents monthly, and minor ones probably almost weekly. They changed it to a roundabout roughly 5 years ago and no accidents since then.
