I usually think that Beck is so political that he doesn't actually say much...
He has plenty of insight but is careful not to outright criticize his paying clientele, of which he has a lot.

With Retzlaff, I actually thought Beck has been the most insightful of the commentators I've heard. Paraphrasing here, but it's not so much that he can't have turnovers, but he has to cut way down on the highly controllable gaffes. In other words, he wants him to still try to make plays, some of which might result in the occasional interception. But he can't constantly mishandle the ball and make costly decisions while trying to do too much.

Also somewhat oddly for me, I thought Brady Poppinga was rather spot on as well. His thoughts lined up with Beck's, in my view. JR reminds him of Favre, who always thought he could make the big play. Retzlaff doesn't have Favre's ability of course. As Favre evolved from his rookie and early seasons while still remaining a gunslinger, Jake must exhibit better discretion in situations where it may be better to take the sack, throw it away, etc., and live to fight the next play.

I'll add myself that Retzlaff's apparent carelessness with the ball or utter lack of ball handling skill, whichever it is, or whatever combo of those two we're seeing, is his most glaring weakness. In my view, he has one game to show that he can get a grip on the above aspects of his game. Another clear fail, like with last week and other games in 2023, and I'm good to move on to next man up.
