I played in the Black14 game in Laramie.
I don’t know how the fans treated BYU players before or after 1969. The way you got to the field from the locker room was under the bleachers and through a short corridor. A path was roped off to keep the fans away from the players. As we walked along the rope we were sprayed with hard liquor and cussed at. Hard snow balls pelted us during warm ups.
Was it church related? Was it just football?
Was it just cowboy vile behavior?
My take, it was church doctrine at the time.
