I think a culture of nastiness grew up between these two programs. His argument partially relied on an appeal to BYU fans' desire not to be like Wyoming fans because Wyoming fans had a well known rep for being bad. I think once fans get a rep for misbehaving and mistreating each other, the trajectory takes a bad turn and genuine enmity can emerge.
