I don't see full self driving being a significant portion of cars on the road till I'm long dead
however, eventually it will be the norm, and then yes, I think car ownership will be over. If you're not driving, what do you care if it's a sports car, truck, suv or minivan? I assume all vehicles will be synced together and mostly eliminate the need for traffic signs, stop lights, etc. Most will become rather generic people carriers, or cargo haulers.

It'll all go to Uber model, call the size of vehicle you need for the location you're going and how many people in your group. There will be no need for parking lots or driveways b/c nobody will be storing cars anywhere. They'll be based in some warehouses outside of towns, but mostly on the road 24/7 except for maintenance and repairs. All the space devoted to storing or caring for cars can be put to more effective use or just beautifying the place a bit.
