as the SMU WR came out of his break and Alfrey (I think) had to close on that guy to take away a potential first down completion. That left Johnson alone with his guy, but he was still within 3-4 yards of the SMU receiver and the WR sort of slowed down too. It would have been a herculean throw to get it that far across the field with a guy in his face.
