What’s the reasoning behind Age being a factor in the optimal fat burning zone….
for heart rate?The calculations are something like
220 minus age x .66

I've heard 220-age but have never multiplied by .66. That results in absurdly low rates.

220 - age = Max HR. This is upper limit of Zone 5 training. Fat burn is Zone 2.

If your max heart rate lowers as you age, wouldn’t the optimal fat burning also

180 - age = the upper limit of zone 2. Subtract 5 if you’re out of shape.
