bases this season.
If you wanna have an argument about who is the best hitter at the plate in 2024, it's Judge and then yes it's those 4 in some order.
But you have to factor in what he's doing on the basepaths. He's stolen 23 straight without being caught. Witt at 27 swipes is the only one in that group who is even in the ballpark.
Acuna, who you have reminded me is the point of this thread was a 170 wRC+ in 2023. That put him behind Ohtani and Seager and it would likewise put him 5th this year.
So I guess you're telling me his season wasn't so special after all.... except it was. Because he swiped a significant number of bags.
And Ohtani is similar this year. With more power and a higher SB success rate (92% to 84%).
I think a case could be made for Witt or Soto over Ohtani, based on the numbers. But at some point the counting stats have to count for something and 44/46 vs 30/27 or 37/7 are a significant difference that imo tips the scales to Ohtani.
And let's not forget the elephant in the room. These hitting comparisons are with a guy who was the starting pitcher in the All Star game and has a career 3.01 ERA and over 11 K/9.
This is the only year you can even make a case he's not the best current player on the planet and he's still right in the middle of the discussion. It's unbelievable and to suggest otherwise it's just living in ignorant trollville.
