His injuries at BYU were mostly just weird accidents, not due to aggressive play
He hurt his knee in a meaningless run at the end of the USU game.
He got tackled on a standard run against USU.
He planted his foot to run in a TD vs Nebraska.

The one injury that was perhaps avoidable was when he broke his arm by diving over a tackler, so that one might fit your hypothesis, but from what we've seen of him in the NFL, it doesn't seem like he is holding back anything, so I'm going to say no, those unfortunate injuries did not help him have a long & productive NFL career.
