I was never part of byu's marching band but I know most people hired for that athletic band director role are heavily involved in the music ed program. Most of them did their undergrad at byu, probably a masters from byu, and then got a doctorate somewhere else. What I'm getting at is we keep seeing the same stuff because they are hiring people who only know the status quo.
