For a board that seems to generally endorse free market principles of competition and choice, there sure seems to be a lot of bad vibes about high school kids transferring to get to the best possible situations for them.

If I have a kid that shows promise as a QB, why shouldn't I be able to freely transfer him to a school with a demonstrably excellent QB coach that will maximize his chances of being recruited to a D1 college? I don't understand why people think this kind of thing is "wrong."

Does it jack up the competitive balance of the sport? Of course. But if my kid is stuck playing QB for a historically irrelevant Hunter or Granger team with less qualified QB coach and recruiting infrastructure, how is that fair? To me, it's more "wrong" to force a kid to stay in an environment that is not going to give him the best chance to succeed.

We don't get worked up when a gifted violinist or calculus whiz transfers schools...
