IMO, depends on the country.
In Brazil, we had to throw our bags onto the bus and sprint on board before they took off. Also, most places didn’t have sidewalks or had cobblestones. I would’ve preferred dufflebags with very sturdy wheels.
If you’re in a country with better public transportation or has paved roads and sidewalks, your luggage needs will be different. I think traditional luggage would be fine here.
