minivan
It is hard to beat a minivan for utility. They are roomy, comfortable, drive well, and extremely versatile. likely a smoother more comfortable ride than most suburban type vehicles.
In a minivan all luggage fits for road trips. quite a bit more room than a suburban, better gas mileage, ride smoother.
Minivans are typically front wheel drive and I find front wheel drive is easier to handle in snow and slick roads (vs a rear wheel drive vehicle). Rear wheel drive is import if you are pulling heavy toys. (trailers, boats, RV camper, etc.) and minivan won't be a good option for that. That would require a suburban or truck...
Minivan will go about ~99% of the places a suburban will go though. dirt roads, no problem. 4 wheel required roads, not so much.
My favorite minivan is a Toyota Sienna. Second favorite is Honda Odyssey. Great vehicles.

Second car - for myself, a sedan that seats 5. Toyota Camry type car. You may prefer a truck... whatever you think is best in your situation... especially if you want something to pull around "toys." Ford F 150 seems to be good choice of trucks.

You may have guessed by now, I am a big fan of minivans. good luck to you. 🙂
