Even with assigned seats I board as early as I can to make sure I get overhead space for my carry on. I prefer southwest
for that because I know exactly when I’ll be getting in the plane as that stress is all moved 24 hours ahead of time when I’m sitting on the toilet checking in.
I can also avoid sitting by the 350 lb smelly dude with a bag of fast food when I get on the plane vs unknowingly having my assigned seat be next to him
