BYU's 2024 basketball recruiting class is currently ranked #12, without Demin being rated. If Demin is a top 10 player, that gives BYU at least a top 5 recruiting class. To give you an idea of what it takes to recruit that well in football, the #12 football recruiting class this year is Oklahoma's. They signed 1 five star player, 22 four star players, and 18 three star players. To land a top 5 football recruiting class is even more daunting. Texas had the #5 class, and they signed 5 five star players, 20 four star players, and 8 three star players. I'm still shaking my head that BYU is recruiting at this level in basketball.

Last year Utah had a top 20 class, which consisted of eight four star and 14 three star players. Even to get to that level seems like a big jump up in recruiting. In 2024 we had three four stars if you count transfers. Last year we had four including transfers. In 2022 and 2021 we had three. In 2019 and 2020 we had zero, while in 2018 we had one. So since 2021 there has been improvement, we just need to have another jump.

You might wonder who these 11 four star players have been? They include Gunner Romney, Logan Fano, Raider Damuni, Puka Nacua, Aisea Moa, Cody Hagen, Kingsley Suamateia, Jackson Bowers, Harrison Taggart, Eddie Heckard, Aidan Robbins, and this year's incoming players. That list includes an All Pro level receiver in Nacua and a starting NFL lineman in Kingsley Suamateia. Romney, Heckard, and Robbins were all impact players, and others on the list likely will be. Even if we can't recruit like Texas or Oklahoma, hopefully we can get to Utah's level, because the more of this kind of players we have on our roster the better our chances of contending in the Big 12.
