Dog ownership seems more popular now than it's ever been in my lifetime
I assume part of this stems from fewer people having kids.

But from my observations, households with kids are also more likely to include dogs.

So what are some other sociological reasons behind this?

Does it also have something to do with people trying to fill a void as a result of feeling more socially isolated in an ever increasing virtual world (where there is less in-person social interaction, less sense of community, etc.)?

Does the average person today feel more anxious and/or insecure than in the past (causing more people to be drawn to the unconditional affirmation that a dog can provide)?

Or is it mostly just a matter of trend following?

Thoughts?
