IMO, eliminating standardize testing was a way for universities to become more selective on who they wanted for their schools after many of the recent affirmative action rulings basically put an end to the practice.

Without standardized testing, schools can start selecting based off of their qualifications and not just a number. I feel that’s what BYU is doing with essays to get a student body that is more in line with the BoT’s ideals.
