Scotland is a integral part of the UK, like Utah or New York are of the US. This

is not what the Virgin Islands are, or ever have been. A better analogy would be Ireland or India or Nigeria before they were granted independence by Britain. Or Cuba or the Philippines before the US granted their independence, or the Canal Zone before we returned it to Panama.
