well, i'm leaning towards just ripping up all the carpet/padding in the 2 rooms.
the base molding has water damage, so i'll probably need to replace those. it was not a lot of water in the rooms, so hopefully i don't need to replace any sheetrock?

Yes, new pad for sure. You can’t keep sewer water soaked pad. Need to do some serious mitigation of the subfloor too.🤢

Just sprinkle some baking soda on it and vacuum well in a few hours. Nobody will ever be able to tell
