We watched a soccer game in Barcelona. Then coordinated private guided tours in Barcelona, then again at Pompei (where we later ate pizza at the world's first- ever pizza place in Naples). Then another coordinated transport and tour in Rome to see the colosseum, the Vatican, st Peter's basilica, the LDS temple and a bunch of other sites. We did the same in Florence, and day-trpped to Pisa. I timed the cruise so we could attend the film festival Cannes, and we even saw a portion of the Monaco grand prix.
None of what we did was provided by Disney. I planned everything. Cruises don't have to be lazy. They can act as dynamic hotel rooms if you plan them right.
